Doug Wheatley
Sgt. Doug Wheatley began his
law enforcement career with the Warren County Sheriff’s Office after graduating
from the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy in 1988. He has served with the
Warren County Sheriff’s Office since 1988 and with the Deerfield Township Post
of the Warren County Sheriff’s Office since 1990. Sgt. Wheatley’s extensive
training includes: certification from S.W.A.T., Evidence Technician
certification, Miami Valley Regional Crime Laboratory; S.W.A.T. Sniper
certification; police cyclist, National Certification – I.P.M.B.A.; graduate of
the Police Executive Leadership College (PELC) in 2004. He is an Ohio Scoped
Rifle Instructor since 2008. He successfully completed the Gang Graffiti
Deciphering, Interdiction, and Investigation course in 2007. As of 2010 Sgt.
Wheatley is a member of the Midwest Outlaw Motorcycle Gang Investigator’s
Association. He was promoted to Sergeant in 2000, serves as a Shift Commander
for Deerfield Township, and has served on the Warren County Tactical Response
Unit (W.C.T.R.U./County Wide S.W.A.T.) since 1999. Sgt. Wheatley is a Team
Leader for Sniper Teams, Sniper and also performs Entry Team task. He was
awarded the Life Saving Award by the Buckeye State Sheriff’s Association in 1997
and the Citation of Commendation from the United States Deputy Sheriff’s
Association in 2005. In 2009 he was awarded a commendation by Sheriff Larry
Sims.
After completing a 2004
Police Executive Leadership College (PELC) course in Columbus, Ohio, Sgt.
Wheatley was asked permission by Central Michigan University English professor
Dr. Elizabeth Brockman to use one of his quotes in her upcoming book. The Blue
Guide: Written Communication for Leaders in Law Enforcement. In addition, Sgt.
Wheatley also completed a Weapons of Mass Destruction training course at the
Center for Domestic Preparedness (CDP) in Anniston, Alabama. The CDP is operated
by the United States Department of Homeland Security’s Office of State and Local
Government Coordination and Preparedness, and is the only federally chartered
Weapons of Mass Destruction training facility in the country.
