Deerfield Township
Fire Rescue is now one of a select few fire departments equipped to
handle mass casualties on a large scale. The department recently took
possession of a 32-foot long Mass Casualty Unit (MCU) designed for large
scale disasters which can be used to treat up to 100 victims. The unit
is one of only a few of its kind provided through Federal grant funds.
The unit is estimated to be worth more than $250,000 and was obtained at
no cost to the Township.
The MCU can be used as
a mini-treatment room and features a John Deere “Gator” for on-site
patient and personnel transport. Other features include a
state-of-the-art mobile sound system, a high output fixed generator and
lighting system, Incident Command System materials, and comprehensive
patient treatment supplies. A limited number of individuals will be
trained to deploy the MCU.
“This is a great
achievement for Deerfield Township Fire Rescue,” said Battalion Chief
Doug Koch. “Living in these times of domestic and foreign terrorism and
natural disasters, our community can rest easier knowing we have this
capability.”
The MCU will be housed at the Kings Mills Fire Station 58 and will be
shared with other jurisdictions. |
