Butler Warren Road
Project to Reduce Congestion
Public Meeting Planned for Spring 2008
The
widening of Butler Warren Road will be well worth the wait when
completed in about four years. The project is designed to reduce
congestion and improve safety along Butler-Warren Road between
Tylersville and Bethany roads. The Southwest Warren County
Transportation Study, completed in September of 2005 by the Ohio
Kentucky Indiana Regional Council of Governments (OKI), designated the
project a high priority. In the summer of 2006 the Warren County
Engineer’s Office, in cooperation with the Butler County Engineer’s
Office, applied to OKI for Federal Surface Transportation Program (STP)
funds, and was awarded funding for the project in the amount of 60
percent of the cost of construction, right-of-way acquisition and
utility relocation. The remaining 40 percent of the cost will be shared
equally between the Warren County Engineer’s Office and the Butler
County Engineer’s Office.
Consulting
engineer TranSystems began work in May 2007, and is in the early stages
of preliminary engineering. Currently they are in the process of
completing the necessary environmental studies and the preliminary
roadway alignment alternatives required of federally funded projects.
The plan,
provided there is no change due to the environmental and preliminary
engineering studies, is to add an additional through travel lane in each
direction and a center turn lane at designated access points. The cost
of the design is being shared equally between the Warren County
Engineer’s Office and the Butler County Engineer’s Office. The total
cost of Part One of the design is $400,592. The cost for Part Two of
the design will be determined after Part One has been completed.
The
project is estimated to cost $11.3 million for construction,
right-of-way acquisition and utility relocation. Funding breakdown is:
$6.78 million – Federal funds; $2.26 million – Butler County Engineer’s
Office; $2.26 million – Warren County Engineer’s Office.
The
following is a tentative schedule:
-
A public involvement meeting is anticipated in the spring of
2008.
-
Design plans should be completed in early 2009.
-
Right-of-way acquisition should be completed by the middle of

-
The project should be awarded in late 2010.
