King Mansion Nomination to National Register of Historic Places
Raises Question of Future Use

As the King mansion moves closer to nomination to the National Register of Historic Places, Deerfield Township Trustees will decide how the structure will be used in the future.

Built in 1885, the house was once the residence of industrialist Ahimaaz King, founder and manager of the King Powder Company and Peters Cartridge Company. On March 27, consultants Sullebarger Associates presented a comprehensive historic structure report to the Board of Trustees. The in-depth report outlines the history, description, and feasibility of potential uses for the 65-plus acre property that includes the house, carriage house, sheds, barn and office building. The report can be viewed in its entirety at www.deerfieldtwp.com  (Parks).

The report investigated three potential uses: bed and breakfast inn, communityoffices/meeting rooms, and reception facility. Additional uses were also considered, including a corporate guest house, museum and caretaker’s apartment. The Board will review the report and consider options for the property.
