Regular Meeting

Trustee Romano called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. All members of the Board were present. Also present were Kristin Spiekerman, the Fiscal Officer, Dan Evers, Administrator and the associate law director.

Trustee Speidel led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Fiscal Officer

A motion by Trustee Corey and second by Trustee Speidel to approve Super Blanket 20689-3 and Purchase Orders 10404-2, 10446-6, 10615-2, 10616, 10617 and 10619. Motion carried unanimously.

A motion by Trustee Corey and second by Trustee Speidel to approve warrants 49295 through 49384.

Board Action – New Business

Community Development

Lois McKnight, Community Development Director, presented the township comprehensive plan.

A motion by Trustee Romano and second by Trustee Speidel to authorize the release of the Request for Qualifications for Creating the Deerfield Township Comprehensive Plan. Motion carried unanimously.

Public Relations

A motion by Trustee Romano and second by Trustee Speidel to table the Deerfield Digest bid until the December 5, 2006 meeting. Motion carried unanimously.

Fire Department

Fire Chief Nathan Bromen announced the Department was awarded the 2006 Gold Star Chili Firehouse of the Year Award.

Chief Bromen announced the Department was awarded $1,500 from the Wal-Mart Foundation Grant Award to be used to replace the Department’s fitness treadmill.

Chief Bromen announced the Department was awarded $15,000 from the Loeb Foundation to be used for one Mobil Data Computer and MARCS portable radios.

 Human Resources

A motion by Trustee Romano and second by Trustee Speidel to authorize the Township Administrator to execute the attached College Tuition Agreement with Project Manager Eric Reiners. Motion carried unanimously.

A motion by Trustee Romano and second by Trustee Speidel to authorize the Township Administrator to execute the attached College Tuition Agreement with Parks Director Joel Smiddy. Motion carried unanimously.

Administration

A motion by Trustee Corey and second by Trustee Speidel to not request a hearing on the issuance of a liquor permit for National Amusements Inc., dba Roadhouse Cinema, 5937 Kings Island Drive, Deerfield Township, Mason, Ohio 45040. Motion carried unanimously. 

Approval of Minutes

A motion by Trustee Romano and second by Trustee Corey to approve as presented the October 3, 2006 regular meeting minutes, October 17, 2006 regular meeting minutes, October 30, 2006 work session minutes and November 1, 2006 special meeting minutes. Motion carried unanimously.

Consent Agenda

Human Resources

A motion by Trustee Romano and second by Trustee Corey to approve the attendance of FF/Medic Ron Shaw at ALS Training Courses in November and December 2006, hosted by Children’s Hospital EMSC Education, Cincinnati, Ohio at a cost of $370 with no additional travel/training expense reimbursement. Motion carried unanimously.

A motion by Trustee Romano and second by Trustee Corey to remove Chris Posega, Career Firefighter/Paramedic DTFR from probationary status effective November 16, 2006 and to transfer 240 sick leave hours credited with the City of Sharonville. Motion carried unanimously.

A motion by Trustee Romano and second by Trustee Corey to approve pesticide re-certification training for Mark Steiner, Deron O’Leary and Dennis Barnes at a cost of $90 each ($270 total) and to obtain training at the December 14, 2006 conference in Wilmington, Ohio. Motion carried unanimously.

A motion by Trustee Romano and second by Trustee Corey to remove Joel Smiddy, Parks Director, from probationary status and increase his annual salary to $46,342 ($22.82 per hour) effective November 19, 2006. Motion carried unanimously.

Reports

Fiscal Officer – Kristin Spiekerman

The fund status and appropriation status reports are in the meeting packets. Ms. Spiekerman updated the Board on the Note sale and credit rating.

Administrator

Dan Evers updated the Board on the Note sale.

A motion by Trustee Romano and second by Trustee Corey to adjourn the meeting at 7:05 p.m. Motion carried unanimously.
