Restrictions to be imparted on Fields-Ertel Road this month

Warren County (Wednesday, March 2, 2022) – As part of an interchange expansion project at Mason-Montgomery Road and southbound Interstate 71 in Warren County, contractors for the Ohio Department of Transportation will impart lane restrictions this month for bridge construction at Fields-Ertel Road.

On Thursday, March 10, Fields-Ertel Road will be reduced to one lane in each direction from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Friday, March 11, for crews to place portable concrete barrier and shift traffic to the outside lanes and temporary pavement on the shoulders.

Then the following week, March 14-18, evening and overnight restrictions will be in effect from 7 p.m. each night to 6 a.m. the following day while crews drill piers for the new structure.

Similarly, Fields-Ertel Road will be reduced to one lane in each direction during these times; however, a full closure of Fields-Ertel may also be necessary to provide additional space for the drilling operations and allow for the safety of the traveling public. In the event this is necessary, a closure will be in effect from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night, and traffic will be detoured via Escort Drive and Mason-Montgomery Road.

The lane shifts will be in effect through the spring and summer months while crews work in the median of Fields-Ertel Road to construct the bridge.

The total project includes construction of an entrance ramp from Mason-Montgomery Road to I-71 South; a new bridge over Fields-Ertel Road; a new southbound turn lane on Mason-Montgomery from Escort Drive to the ramp; and an entrance taper on I-71 South, between the Fields-Ertel Road bridge and the existing ramp from Fields-Ertel.

The Eagle Bridge Company was awarded a contract for approximately $4.7 million to undertake the project, and all work is scheduled to be completed by late spring of 2023.
